Our story
Afrika Dumela: A Solution to Address Ignorance about Africa
The founder, Obakeng, had an eye-opening experience after traveling to Gaborone, Botswana, and Lusaka, Zambia in 2018. He realized that he knew very little about his own continent. In fact, when he tested himself on the names of African countries, he failed. This prompted him to focus on learning more about Africa, including maps, flag maps, location, neighbouring countries, and independence dates.
Obakeng identified a problem – he didn’t know his continent as well as he thought he did. To address this, he created Afrika Dumela, a business that aims to educate people about Africa through entertainment. The company was founded with the vision of unlearning the stereotypes and misconceptions about Africa and learning more about the continent’s diverse cultures and history.
Thanks to Afrika Dumela, Obakeng can now name all 55 African countries, including their capital cities. He continues to discover more about Africa and helps others do the same through his tours.
